Scratchdog Stringband

Songs, Fiddle, Mandolin

I am fortunate to have had a fruitful career with Scratchdog Stringband. As a front man, multi-instrumentalist, singer and booker, I was always afforded opportunity to grow as a professional performer. We performed at Northwest String Summit, the region’s premier music festival; we were performed at the behest of the U.S. State Department for a humanitarian tour in Russia; and we played at various festivals throughout the U.S., touring the Pacific Northwest extensively for 7 years.

As the pandemic shifted so many things, Scratchdog has disbanded - moving vans were loaded for some, rings were exchanged, babies were made - the stuff of life - and who knows maybe there'll be a reuinion someday!

The Sweet Old Souls

Guitar, Fiddle

The Sweet Old Souls began as a fireside serenade. Often it was just Susanna and I performing for an audience of one, Naga the dog. Eventually we played a few shows in California and Oregon, and then we put together a truly soul-warming album, “Go to Town,” which features 19th century cowboy songs, 1920s-50s country and jazz, and even a traditional Klezmer tune.

A hallmark aspect of the music is its Carter-style harmonies, constantly intertwining over an old Harmony Arch-Top Guitar and an even older Martin Soprano Ukulele. The music is sweet, the songs are old, and the souls of the players are timeless.
